This will also prepare you to learn online full time should it become necessary. Timetabled contact hours, which can be made up of lectures, seminars, tutorials and laboratory classes, vary throughout your course and between courses but are typically between 17 and 27 hours a week in your first year. Your overall workload consists of class contact hours, independent learning and assessment activities.

Over the duration of your course, you will be expected to develop independent and critical learning, progressively building confidence and expertise through independent and collaborative research, problem-solving and analysis with the support of staff. You take responsibility for your own learning and are encouraged to make use of the wide range of available learning resources available. In addition to the formally scheduled contact time such as lectures and seminars etc.), you are encouraged to access academic support from staff within the course team and the wide range of services available to you within the University.

Computers Systems

Modelling dynamical systems from first principles via Newton’s, Kirchoff’s or other known physical laws is often challenging and costly, requiring substantial expertise. An alternative is offered through ‘system identification’ that takes observations of inputs and outputs from physical systems and infers or estimates a dynamical model directly. Mature entrants without formal qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Please be aware that completion of the High School Diploma will remain a requirement. We consider applicants studying the IBCP on a case-by-case basis based on the individual components studied. To be considered for this course you will need to study either Mathematics course at Higher Level alongside other IB Higher Level subjects or vocational study equivalent to two A levels. This vocational study can be any qualification we accept, such as a BTEC National Diploma or two BTEC National Extended Certificates , and should include sufficient Engineering content.

Core courses

You’ll be taught and assessed by a variety of methods and it will vary between units. These methods are designed to promote in-depth learning and understanding of the subject. Vital to any in-house IT infrastructure, the specification and quality of your servers dictates the performance and usability of the many business systems and applications you rely on every single day. Where courses have an A Level maths requirement, it would be necessary for applicants to achieve a high mark in AP Calculus BC or SAT Math Level 2.

  • On successful completion of this programme you will receive a degree accredited by The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
  • The passive ideas are extended to active electronic components; diodes, transistors and operational amplifiers and the circuits in which these devices are used.
  • In this module you will develop an understanding of the design of algorithms, with a focus on time and space complexity.
  • The module will draw directly on practical issues of budgeting, raising finance, assessing financial risks and making financial decisions in the context of engineering projects and/or product development.
  • Due to unprecedented demand, applications for the September 2022 intake are now closed.

These types of digital devices are capable of performing most common computing tasks. By installing a new software application our computer becomes capable of performing a completely new function. Computer systems are a combination of both hardware and software working together.

International Baccalaureate Career

In year two you will engage and deepen your understanding of issues related to networking and relevant supporting technologies including security and databases. There is a strong focus on employability and you will develop an in-depth understanding of web and mobile application development. The Integrated Project module incorporates your knowledge learned in Year 1 and enables you to design, develop and evaluate a security application as part of a team. In year one you will develop fundamental core knowledge in networks and information systems. You will engage with underpinning principles of computing and networking technologies together with relevant areas of programming, mathematics, statistics and business. You will build practical experience within a dedicated Cisco networking lab which you will continue in your second year.

Other library services include study skills training to improve your grades, and tailored advice from experts in your subject. This module is about understanding the fundamentals and common applications of antennas and radar systems. The basic characteristics of some of the commonly used antennas, and antenna systems, will be examined in the context of practical design and application.
